Big Idea:

We must stick together with our friends in the truth, and keep separate from the wickedness of the world.

Photos for Storytelling:

Free Bible Images has a series of illustrations that can be used to tell the story of Abram and Lot (http://www.freebibleimages.org/illustrations/abraham-lot/), and Sodom & Gomorrah (http://www.freebibleimages.org/illustrations/sodom-gomorrah/) .  You can print off large copies, or put the photos in a PowerPoint presentation.

Props for Storytelling:Salt, Salt Shaker, Table Salt

Farm animal figurines – talk about Abram and Lot separating their herds.

Salt shaker – talk about Lot’s wife turning into salt.

A Lot’s wife creation – (how to: https://www.biblefunforkids.com/2012/09/bible-class-visual-aids.html)

Puppets – print and use the angry herdsmen puppets for telling the story (template is in the post intro).

Sensory or Movement:

Epsom salt sensory bin.  You can dye the epsom salt with a few drops of food coloring.  If you have a shallower bin, you can provide words or letters for them to copy.  If you are leading this centre, you can talk about different parts of this story and have them trace happy or sad faces depending as a “response” to the good and bad parts in the story.  If you have a deeper sensory bin, bring spoons, scoops and cups for the children to play with.

Song:

Abram and Lot Song  http://www.dltk-bible.com/genesis/abram_lot-song.htm

(Sung to “Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush”)

Abram and Lot had many sheep
Had many sheep, had many sheep
Abram and Lot had many sheep
There wasn’t enough water

Abram and Lot’s shepherds always fought
Always fought, always fought
Abram and Lot’s shepherds always fought
There had to be peace

Abram told Lot to find some new land
Find some new land, find some new land
Abram told Lot to find some new land
Lot looked to the East

Lot moved to a bad city called Sodom
called Sodom, called Sodom
Lot moved to a bad city called Sodom
He wasn’t very wise

Lot and his family were taken prisoner
Taken prisoner, taken prisoner
Lot and his family were taken prisoner
Abram went to the rescue

God helped Abram save Lot and his family
Lot and his family, Lot and his family
God helped Abram save Lot and his family
To God be the glory!

Craft:

Watercolor salt art.  On a thick sheet of construction paper (or watercolor paper), have the children watercolor and then sprinkle with salt.  Glue today’s verse (from the template in the post intro) after the paint has dried.

Additional Craft:

Puppet coloring!  Using crayons or markers color precut herdsmen puppets before gluing them onto popsicle sticks (template is in the post intro).

Snack:

Share roasted corn kernels.  Discuss how Abram and Lot’s shepherd’s didn’t want to share the grain growing in the pasture, but we stick together and share!
