Polished Cornerstones was a book that stood out to me as I was perusing a friend’s bookshelf. By the time I was done looking it over I knew we had to get it for our own family! It is a very large, extensive book designed by a Christian woman that aims to help parents develop Godly characteristics in their daughter’s lives.
Although, at times, the book references common false doctrine, there is an impressive focus on teaching your daughter how to read and study the Bible for herself and how to make it apply to her life.
One of the very special things about this book is that it is a buffet of ideas for girls starting as young as 3 and going straight up to womanhood. The younger girls love the special talks and time with Mummy making bracelets or “Ruby Dolls”, while young ladies are given a weekly opportunity to reflect on how living and powerful the word of God is in their lives.
There are 52 chapters in the book – conveniently written to do one activity a week with your daughter. Each chapter has more then 20 activities to do together to help teach the lessons to your daughter. As you progress year by year you can gently mature the topics as your daughter grows. Although designed for use at home in a family environment, it could easily be adapted for use in a Sunday school class or even a special class for young woman (Proverbs 31 class).
Here is the Table of Contents and an example of one chapter (Honesty). You can purchase Polished Cornerstones directly from the author here or purchase it used online at www.amazon.com or other used book sellers.
I will sing a new song to you, my God;
on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you,
to the One who gives victory to kings,
who delivers his servant David.
Then our sons in their youth
will be like well-nurtured plants,
and our daughters will be like pillars
carved to adorn a palace.
Blessed is the people of whom this is true;
blessed is the people whose God is the Lord.
Psalm 144: 9-10, 12, 15
