Be a blessing.
Abraham was blessed and promised that God would make him a blessing to the whole world. The Hebrew word used here as “bless” means to kneel, or show respect. “The extended meaning of this word is to do or give something of value to another. God ‘respects’ us by providing for our needs and we in turn ‘respect’ God by giving him of ourselves as his servants.” (www.ancient-hebrew.org).
We bless God by giving Him honour for what He has given to us and using what we are given in ways that bring even more honour to Him. He blesses all by providing everything we need, but often it seems that God chooses to use people to bless each other. When we see our wealth, skills, possessions, talents in this light, it can help us to be content – we don’t need to accumulate more just for us – we can use them for others.
What has God blessed you with that you could bless others with?
A family member?
A brother or sister in the ecclesia?
A neighbour?
The wildlife outside your window?
A local charity?
