Write the words of a call to praise God for His goodness and mighty works (Psalm 33), and a call to worship and remember what God has done (Psalm 66), and a passage from Isaiah about the greatness of God (Isaiah 40). Join the writers in appreciating how magnificent God is and how He is a life-giver.
Consider what God smells:
- God would not smell their offerings when they were not sincere Amos 5:21
- God smelled Noah’s sacrifice and promised not to curse the ground anymore or smite every living thing Genesis 8:21
- A proper sacrifice was a sweet savour to God Leviticus 19:17
- Jesus is a sweet smelling savour Ephesians 5:2
- Caring for others is a sweet smell to God Philippians 4:18
- The prayer of the upright is his delight Proverbs 15:8
- Followers of Christ create a sweet savour of his knowledge 2 Corinthians 2:14-16
It is an interesting thought that sacrifices and the way our lives are lived are what send up a fragrance to God that He accepts or rejects. When we are living in a way that is life–giving, we give off a sweet aroma to God and others.
Our sense of smell is often used to sort between good and bad. It is possible that we often use our sense of smell without realizing it. Research suggests that our noses may also detect chemicals that help us to sense things about other people such as emotion and health. Have you noticed that your nose helps you to distinguish between what is life-giving and what isn’t?
Notice Creation!
- Look for the sparkles of water drops after rain or in the early morning.
- Enjoy a glass of cold water (or hot if you prefer it). Savour it. Really feel the way that water cools you or warms you,
- Notice the smell of the air after it rains or after you have watered your lawn or garden.
- Listen to the sound of rain, the rushing of a stream, or waves breaking.
