This month, write out the Song of the Bridegroom (Psalm 45), God’s speech to His people (Psalm 50), the Psalm of the son of man (Psalm 8), how God’s glory fills Creation (Psalm 19), and a song for pilgrims (Psalm 121). Join with the Psalmist in the exaltation of justice and beauty, and the knowledge that what God asks from us (gratitude and trust in His ways) is for our good.
How often have you had your breath taken away by beauty? Sight is not the only way beauty can be experienced, but our eyes are wonderful in the way they can appreciate colour, texture, harmony, pattern, form, etc.
The descriptions of the Tabernacle and the Temple in the Bible let us know that God wanted people to associate beauty with worship of Him. He gave Bezaleel a spirit of wisdom, understanding, and workmanship so that he could create and teach others to create all the beautiful pieces of the Tabernacle.
Part of God’s goodness is not only that we are able to perceive all these things, but that the world is full of beauty.
Notice Creation!
This month, look for and enjoy all the beauty of Creation.
- Touch the bark on every tree you can. Notice the textures, colours, patterns.
- Stand at the bottom of a tree and look up through the branches.
- Listen to the wind blowing through the trees and put your ear against the trunk.
- Find some trees that produce nuts or fruit and enjoy them.
