This month, write out how God protects His people (Psalm 9). Join with the Psalmists in worshipping God for His mighty power (Psalm 96), for how He is in control (Psalm 97), and for His victory and righteousness (Psalm 98). End with a prayer for protection (Psalm 20).
The sense of hearing not only gives us the opportunity to enjoy sound, it also keeps us safe. Our two ears, working together, allow us to tell what direction a sound is coming fromand how far away it is. This helps us to recognize possible dangers often before we can see them.
We can become dull of hearing, and not even notice the sounds going on around us. Taking time to intentionally practice your sense of hearing can only be beneficial, not only to become more aware of the world around you, but to also be more attentive to the people in your life and what they have to say to you.
Listening to the words of God is emphasized in the Bible as something that will have a positive effect on your life. “Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David” (Isaiah 55:3).
To be wise requires a willingness to listen. Whether it is criticism or new information, both can be helpful. A person who thinks they already know everything or who will not accept correction, will never grow in wisdom (Proverbs 9:9).
Use your ears to listen and learn!
Notice Creation!
This month, practice listening to the noises of Creation. As well, pay attention to the following:
- Look for spirals in Creation (Fibonacci spiral). For example, snail shells, pinecones, flowers, ferns. Try drawing the pattern.
- Look for examples of iridescence (colours that change with light). For example, fish skin, bubbles, butterflies, feathers.
- Notice echoes. Read about echolocation and how animals use it such as whales, dolphins, and bats.
- If you can visit a bit of water like a pond, look for dragonflies or damselflies. Enjoy their beauty!
