Hope is such an important quality in our lives. It is what inspires us to move toward our goals in the hope that we will achieve them. It is what gives farmers incentive to plant their crops, students the motivation to keep studying, those burdened with illness the desire to keep fighting… Hope inspires the will.
The writer to the Hebrews sums it up quite well:
“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast…” (Hebrews 6:18,19)
The hope of a world ruled by a righteous king, of an earth renewed and restored, is an anchor to the soul. It can help us to hold on when things are difficult, knowing that whatever it is, it won’t last forever. It can keep us from being dashed against the rocks.
Take some time to be reminded of the beautiful hope we have.
Steep for awhile in a beautiful picture by taking a few minutes each day in Isaiah 35.
These are very short exercises meant to help you meditate on this beautiful chapter.
